Raising bilingual children in Australia is a beautiful dream — but let’s be honest, it’s not always easy.
If you’re a parent trying to nurture your child’s connection to your heritage language — whether it’s Italian, Japanese, Hindi, Mandarin or Cantonese — you’ve probably hit a few roadblocks. You might have searched far and wide for meaningful children’s books in your language, only to find limited or poor-quality options locally. Or worse, you’ve ended up with books that don’t reflect the richness of your culture, or feel like they’ve been awkwardly translated with no heart.
That’s exactly why I started Polyglot Tales.
We Don’t Just Import — We Curate Stories That Matter
At Polyglot Tales, I don’t simply ship books from overseas and sell them. I curate each title with care — with your family in mind. Every book in our collection is handpicked from native speakers, authors, illustrators, and publishers in their home countries. Whether it’s a picture book from Japan, a folk tale from India, or a modern gem from Italy or Taiwan, these are the stories families in those countries are really reading — stories that reflect their voice, humour, warmth, and cultural depth.
Why does that matter?
Because children are clever. They know when something’s authentic. And when they see their home language in high-quality books, written and illustrated with care, they begin to take pride in their identity.
Beautiful Books That Invite Your Child In
I choose books that aren’t just linguistically correct, but visually and emotionally engaging. Books with stunning illustrations, rich language, and thoughtful themes — ones your child will want to return to again and again.
I’ve spent hours flipping through pages (and sometimes dragging heavy boxes through customs!) so you don’t have to waste time on disappointing purchases. Because your child deserves better. And frankly, so do you.
The reality is, Australia doesn’t have a huge range of high-quality heritage language resources, especially for young kids. And yet, we’re one of the most multicultural countries in the world.
That contradiction is what fuels my mission.
At Polyglot Tales, I want to fill that gap — not just by offering great books, but by being part of your journey. I’ve spoken to countless parents who feel isolated, who are doing the hard work of raising bilingual children without much support. I see you. I am you.
Whether you're reading bedtime stories in Simplified Chinese, introducing Italian to your toddler, or helping your grandparents read to your child in Japanese over Zoom — know this: you’re not alone.
Let’s Build a Bilingual Parenting Village
This work isn’t just about selling books. It’s about community.
I want Polyglot Tales to be more than a bookstore — I want it to be a meeting place for like-minded families. A space where we can cheer each other on, share tips, celebrate wins (big and small), and laugh at the messy reality of language learning with kids.
So if this speaks to you — come join us. Follow us on Instagram @polyglottales where I share ideas, stories, and inspiration for bilingual families just like yours.
Together, let’s raise proud, connected, language-loving kids — one beautiful book at a time.
